Ancient varietals like Falanghina, Fiano, Greco, Aliagnico and Piedirosso are becoming more and more popular. Wineries like Feudi di San Gregorio, Mastroberardino, Fucci, Paternoster and Macarico are at the forefront of this movement. Plantings of these ancient varieties are on the rise. Each winery is finding their own balance of tradition and modernization. As long as this region stays rooted in tradition while modernizing technique the quality of these unique wines will continue to skyrocket. Rome's favorite wine region will again be widely celebrated as one of Italy's best. And we will continue to drink beautiful, unique wines with and incredible 3000 year history. Let us remember Pompeii with every glass of Greco, celebrate Rome for its commitment to the vine and toast the maverick wineries who are reviving these wines and improving upon them.
